For over 100 years, feminists around the world have marked International Women’s Day on March 8th, celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and focusing attention on the work that still needs to be done to accelerate gender equality. By working together we’ll be able to help more women and girls secure the protections and fundamental rights they deserve to live safe, fearless, and free.
A specially focused International Women’s Week celebration from Saturday 6 to Friday 12 March will bring women’s groups and community organisations across Tower Hamlets together to host activities following this year’s theme: ‘Women: Identity, Crisis, Future’. Community organisations, women’s groups contemporary women artists, activists, writers and performers will host a diverse programme of events this March in Tower Hamlets, to mark Women’s History Month 2022. Activities including exhibitions, discussions and celebrations reflecting this year’s theme of ‘providing healing, promoting hope’, will take place in galleries, schools, libraries and institutions across Tower Hamlets. Tower Hamlets Council along with community organisation Alternative Arts, will be hosting a series of online events throughout March to mark Women’s History Month, including exhibitions, discussions, sports sessions, and celebrations for International Women’s Day and International Women's Week. Visit the Tower Hamlets events page for International Women’s Day health and wellbeing sessions listings.
