The voluntary and community sector in Tower Hamlets is currently undergoing a period of uncertainty which is about to replaced by a period of transition. The Local Community Fund which has provided project funding for groups for the past 3 ½ years is about to come to an end and be replaced by the Mayor’s Community Grants Programme. We don’t yet know the outcome and consequences of this transition but what we do know is that there will be some organisations gaining new and exciting project funding and needing to mobilise these projects. At the same time there will also be embedded and effective projects and organisations losing the necessary funding to continue to support their communities. During this period of change we at Tower Hamlets CVS are committed to building a strong and independent voluntary and community sector and providing support to organisations who are undergoing different forms of transition. This support takes a number of forms including: - 121 development sessions – including support in developing funding applications
- Funding searches
- Organisational health checks
- Free training – see below for dates for digital support training and we will soon be providing dates for training in ‘Diversifying your Income Streams’ and ‘Measuring your Impact and Developing Better Funding Applications’
- Developing networks and partnerships involving both VCS organisations and statutory bodies in order to share information and develop funding streams to build a more resilient VCS.
We have been told that the successful grant awards will be published on Wednesday 20th September at this address: Mayor's Community Grants Programme (towerhamlets.gov.uk). There will then follow a 5 working day period to allow for internal challenges from other LBTH departments and then both successful and unsuccessful applicants will be written to on Wednesday 27th September. We understand that this timetable is subject to change. Please contact us at info@thcvs.org.uk in order to book a 1-2-1 session or learn more about how we can support your organisation to build upon the excellent work already being done across the borough and better serve the communities we exist to support. All the work we are doing to provide support around the Mayor’s Community Grants Programme can be found here. Online funding searches In order to provide support on linking organisations to potential funders and funding opportunities we are introducing a new online form requesting information about your organisation and the type and scale of funding you are looking for. We will then conduct a funding search and get back to you within 5 working days with a list of funding bodies to approach. At this point we will also be able to discuss further support we may be able to offer with the funding process. The online form can be found here. State of the Sector 2023 report launch During May and June this year Tower Hamlets CVS conducted a survey on the State of the Sector. We asked organisations questions about the issues and barriers they face in delivering for their beneficiaries in Tower Hamlets. On Tuesday 3rd October come and join us between 6 and 8pm at St Margaret’s House, 21 Old Ford Road, E2 9PL, for food, music and the launch of the report of the findings from this survey.
