#Stoptober is Back - get support to Quit Smoking!
 

This month is #Stoptober! 

Stoptober is the NHS campaign to support those who want to quit smoking, it is a 28 days smoke-free challenge. Why 28? Studies reveal that if you stop for 28 days you are five times more likely to quit for good.

You can download the app that allows you track your progress, know how much are you saving and get daily support. Download the app

Also you can get support from Quit Right Tower Hamlets, they are now providing telephone consultations for new patients so you don’t need to leave the safety of your home.

Voluntary Community Sector Women’s Network.
 

The Council has been working in partnership with a number of local voluntary sector organisations to develop a Voluntary Community Sector Women’s Network.  

The aim of the network is to represent local women and girls residents by providing an expert voice to decision makers through the knowledge gained from frontline workers from Women’s Voluntary Sector Organisations and projects.  It is envisaged that the network will be a place to share information, share good practice and share the load of increased demands for services and the impact on women’s organisations, offer a conduit for advocacy to local decision makers and to reduce duplication when responding to emerging needs, acting  as a vehicle for joint responses and partnership.  As it is essential to provide a voice for local women ensuring our local COVID-19 response and recovery planning is responsive in addressing inequalities women face in:. 

  • Employment
  • Increased caring role
  • Violence against women and girls

The Covid-19 community champions network has been established to empower and support Tower Hamlets residents to stay up to date with the latest advice about Covid-19. 

Champions help their family, friends and the wider community make sense of the latest advice and information about Covid-19, to help ensure we all stay safe and alert to the risks of the virus.

Race Commission: Community Leadership

Tower Hamlets Council have recently set up a race commission to address some of the issues of inequalities in the borough and to invite you to contribute to the work of the commission by providing a written submission.

The first meeting will be held at 11am on  October 8th and will focus on Community Leadership.

The commission will listen to the views of residents and organisations to understand how the lived experience and chances for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic people in Tower Hamlets differ significantly and detrimentally from those of White people.

Government Support
 

In response to the pandemic the government announced new national restrictions on September 22nd to help contain the spread of Covid-19.

As part of the new measures the government have opened new programmes to support employers to get through the economic challenges of the pandemic.

Kickstart Scheme

The scheme aims to create new 6-month job placements for young people who are currently on Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment. If you are an employer looking to create job placements for young people, check if you can apply for funding as part of the Kickstart Scheme.

Job Support Scheme - Replacing furlough Scheme

The Job Support Scheme is designed to protect viable jobs in businesses who are facing lower demand over the winter months due to Covid-19, to help keep their employees attached to the workforce. The scheme will open on 1 November 2020 and run for 6 months.

Coronavirus Local Restrictions Support Grant

The Local Restrictions Support Grant (LRSG) supports businesses that have been required to close due to temporary COVID-19 local lockdown restrictions imposed by the government. It is for businesses that pay business rates on their premises. Local councils may at their discretion also provide funding for businesses that don’t pay business rates. 
Applications open for the Pilotlight Programme
Deadline for applications October 30th 

The Pilotlight Programme helps charity leaders to look at their organisations strategically and help organisations adapt and build resilience for the future.

Pilotlight match teams of four Pilotlighters from different private and public sector organisations with a specific charity or social enterprise.

Toolkit: Designing and Delivering Online Sessions

This Lloyds Bank Academy toolkit provides an overview of how to create engaging sessions for an online audience. Is designed for use by people of all levels of experience or prior knowledge and provides an introduction to delivering online sessions.

The toolkit provides guidance and support on:

  • how to move what would have been face-to-face sessions online
  • how to make sessions interactive and engaging
  • tips for when you are the host and facilitating online sessions
  • the key principles to consider when designing your session
  • how you can embed online sessions into your organisation for the long-term

Lloyds Bank Foundation - Support for Charitable Infrastructure Organisations

This is a one-off funding opportunity for local and regional infrastructure organisations that provide organisational development support for and advocate for small and local charities.

Within the fund Lloyds Bank Foundation is ring-fencing 25% of grants for infrastructure
organisations that support Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic organisations and which are
led by members of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities.

Mayor’s Resilience Fund

Grants of up to £30k

The Resilience Fund is the Mayor’s £1 million innovation programme to support London’s businesses and community groups to emerge stronger from the current coronavirus crisis, and to ensure the capital is better prepared for future emergencies.

Businesses, social enterprises and community groups will be matched with tech innovators who will help them find new ways of delivering their products and services to keep up with the accelerated pace of change after the pandemic and to improve their own resilience to future shocks.
