This bulletin comes as LGBT+ History Month is under way, marking the theme 'Behind the Lens', celebrating the contribution of LGBT+ people to cinema and film from behind the camera. The month-long celebrations take place every February and mark the contribution that LGBT+ people have made to society and their communities over the years. This year, THCVS would like to highlight 'Aponghor Bengali LGBTQIA+ Group'. Founded by Sohel Ahmed, Aponghor offers a safe and welcoming environment for Bengali members of the LGBTQIA+ community. The group, based at Poplar Union, provides information and support for issues including mental, physical and sexual health and wellbeing, asylum seeking and immigration, families and housing. They also throw some brilliant parties, march yearly at London Pride and hold free monthly meet-ups on the first Monday of each month at 6pm at Poplar Union. If you would like to know more or are interested in joining, please email ahmed_sohel@icloud.com or visit their Facebook page. Check out the local events happening this month in and around Tower Hamlets below and in the event section on our website. Schools Out UK, celebrating over 45 years of campaigning for LGBT+ visibility and inclusion in our schools and in the wider community have a wealth of information and events on their website.
