Welcome to the Tower Hamlets CVS health and wellbeing bulletin. Updates from THCVS Our 2023 State of the Sector Survey report told us that 75% of organisations in Tower Hamlets see funding as the biggest challenge they face over the coming year. At Tower Hamlets CVS we are trying to address that need by providing training and opportunities to find suitable funders to organisations. If you would like us to provide a funding search for your organisation please fill in the online form here. If you would like to sign up for the THCVS fortnightly bulletin sign up here. Health and wellbeing forum The health and wellbeing forum on the 19th of October focused on better understanding the puzzle of local health and care services and who is doing what and how the VCS can influence and be involved. There have been a lot of changes in the way the NHS has been structured since July last year into the integrated Care System. In the borough the focus that we have been working with the ICS to develop, involves a VCS collaborative that can create opportunities for the sector to influence, create solutions and embed approaches. As well as raising awareness of the opportunities in the borough for organisations to get involved: - Working at a neighbourhood level with the Primary Care Network and Localities
- Neighbourhood forums and localities programme
- THT health inequalities funds and how the sector can make a difference with the Long Term Conditions Programme.
The session had presentations from: VCS alliance with the ICS: Vicky Scott - THCVS update on how the CVS’s across NEL have finally secured funding for a programme coordinator across the 8 boroughs. The post will be hosted with THCVS so it is hoped that we can learn from the approaches across the boroughs to influence change in the collaboration between the VCS and the healthcare system. Localities & Neighbourhoods Programme: Tim Hughes - Partnership Programme Lead - Presented on the new programme being developed across the 7 PCNs and 4 localities. Localities and Neighbourhoods is a vision of how to improve health and wellbeing, address health inequalities and prevent ill health on a locality and neighbourhood level. Integrated care, delivered in the community, will lead to people accessing care when they need it, receiving personalised care from integrated neighbourhood teams when required and where we enable people to stay well for longer. This will require an integrated, collaborative way of working, with professionals working together across organisational boundaries with the person. This programme is in its very early stages of production Neighbourhood forum: Sam Crosby gave a brief update on THT funded pilot to work with the Primary care networks in 1 and 2 around Bethnal Green. There will be opportunities for the VCS to be involved in engaging communities to develop local interventions. THCVS will be working on a delivery plan and will keep the forum updated. Long term conditions programme: Mimi Coultas - Public Health adults and communities' team 3-year programme funded by NHS North East London and TH Public Health (Oct 23-Jul 26) aiming to reduce health inequalities by working with 8 very local communities most at risk of long-term conditions (LTCs) to prevent them. With a focus on diabetes, CVD and COPD prevention Mental Health Alliance: Phil Warburton - Rethink mental illness and CitIzen UK unfortunately we ran out of time to hear from Phil. So if you would like to find out about the exciting opportunities of being a member of the alliance and the partners work to address health inequalities. Please contact phil.warburton@citizensuk.org for more information. Click here for the Health and Wellbeing power point presentation (19.10.2023) Click here for the Localities & Neighbourhoods VCS H&WB Forum power point presentation (19.10.2023) There were interesting discussions on all the programmes with suggestions on who and how the sector can be involved. If you would like information on how to be involved please contact alison.robert@thcvs.org.uk or sam.crosby@thcvs.org.uk Other ways to get involved in the borough: Primary Care Networks in Tower Hamlets are actively delivering COVID-19 outreach clinics. This is an important initiative to ensure that vaccination and healthcare services are easily accessible to the community. Any stakeholders and community members that would like to get involved or request clinics in their venues or areas, please consider the following steps: - Do you have a group wanting a covid-19 vaccination
- How many people would like to be vaccinated
- Contact details
- When would a clinic be possible to be delivered in your venue
- Would you like any additional services i.e. blood pressure checks
If you have any questions, please contact Tyrone Josephine at tyrone.josephine@nhs.net Networking meetings and opportunities to link with the GP practices and hear about services: E-breakfasts - Contact Locality HWB committees
